Air Source Heat Pumps

Image
A #TBT post from 2008 – 2013: One of our first projects installed with an Air Source Heat Pump. Designed by Paul Day BSc (Hons) MCIAT of PD Architecture, this eco-led project for seven new homes, (over two phases of development), went on to win the LABC ‘Best Small New Housing Development (7 Units or less)’ in 2014. With green technologies now playing a bigger role in the new build housing market, we have years of experience that can help meet the demands for ever greener homes. Find out more about this project on our blog at Greener Homes in Nottingham or see our case study write up at Sustainably Designed Homes in Nottingham . Home Energy Battery Storage

Image
HOME ENERGY BATTERY STORAGE:   Recent retro-fit of a #BatteryStorage unit at one of our previous home extension projects with #SolarPV panels.   So how does it work?   This snapshot is taken at around 10:30am, (on a relatively dull day before the heatwave): The #battery has been part charged already by the #SolarPanels, it’s a time of high demand, (2198 W consumption: working from home and washing machine on). Electricity is being pulled from the Solar Panel Installation and the Battery, (with no electricity being required from the grid).   NOTE: Washing machines, kettles, immersion heaters and electric showers in particular take up a high use of electricity in the home.   Without the washing machine on, this house has a consumption rate of around 200-350w during daylight hours, (even when working from home). So generally the Solar Panels (3.8kW) adequately charge the battery, (subject to weather conditions),  whilst also running the home during daylight hours.  T

Self Build in Leicester

Self Build Home in Leicester   Self Build : Another energy efficient  new build home design  delivered for a lovely family in  Leicester   Our energy efficient design provides for an A (92) rating . . . . and with some cost efficient optional measures from the energy assessor, an A (96) rating can be realistically achieved for this project.    A great project for us to be able to deliver in this climate of ever increasing energy prices. Throw Back Thursday #TBT Post: Solar PV

Image
Solar Panels  #TBT post: Whilst we still find it a little surprising that on site power generation and other green requirements have not become more commonplace in new build home developments, #SelfBuilders and #Homeowners have been leading the way for many years. Not all roofs are suitable (ideal) for solar installations, but you do need more land than most if you are going to look at alternatives. This Solar PV Array erected in 2010 as part of a home extension project in Nottingham , not only provided green energy for the home but also shading for the more delicate vegetable crops in their home growing area . . . and twelve and a half years on, having taken advantage of the Feed-In Tariff (a 25 year scheme), this homeowner has already been paid many thousands of pounds for the energy they have generated and exported to the national grid, with many more years of payments yet to come. Home Extension - Ravenshead, Nottingham

Image
. . . . . . . visit our website at  www.pd-architecture.co.uk  for more information Completed home extension project designed by leading  architectural practice  PD Architecture in  Ravenshead ,  Nottingham   Located in the green belt, this home extension was provided with green technologies and methodology in mind.     . . . . . . before and after photographs South facing glazed screens allows the development to benefit from passive solar gains in the winter months when the sun is low, and in the summer months when the sun is higher, to prevent excessive solar gains the glazed screen is shaded at ground and first floor levels with an overhanging roof and balcony.  Solar PV panels generate on site electricity and provide an income from the Feed in Tariff, whilst rainwater harvesting makes good use of the surface water run-off. A high thermal mass using a masonry structure was enhanced with exposed oak beams and purlins, whilst the walls, floor and roof were in
